Sharp Showcases Award-Winning Microwave Drawer™ at NKBA Annual Conference 2026

Innovative kitchen appliance showcased to New Zealand's leading kitchen and interior design professionals.

AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND – September 2026: Sharp New Zealand showcased its innovative Sharp Microwave Drawer™ to an audience of kitchen designers, interior designers, cabinet makers and industry professionals at the NKBA Annual Conference 2026, offering an exclusive first look at a new approach to microwave design and kitchen integration.

The Microwave Drawer™ is not currently available in New Zealand, however Sharp is using the opportunity to introduce the product to the local design community and gather market insight and feedback as it explores its potential for the New Zealand market.

Manufactured in the United Kingdom and recognised with a prestigious iF Design Award in 2025, the Sharp Microwave Drawer™ has been designed to bring together contemporary aesthetics, functionality and accessibility.

Designed around the modern kitchen

More than a microwave, the Sharp Microwave Drawer™ is designed to become a premium design feature within the kitchen.

Its sleek piano black glass finish and discreet under-counter installation creates a clean, uncluttered aesthetic, while flexible installation options allow it to be integrated into a kitchen island or peninsula, or positioned below a wall oven.

The drawer design also offers a different approach to everyday microwave use. Rather than reaching into an overhead or bench-height appliance, users can smoothly open the drawer and place dishes from above, creating a more ergonomic experience for users of all ages and abilities.

For kitchen designers and cabinet makers, the design also provides an opportunity to rethink where a microwave sits within the overall kitchen workflow, while freeing valuable benchtop space.

Designed for convenience and performance

The 33-litre flatbed Microwave Drawer™ combines a premium aesthetic with practical cooking functionality, including:

  • 33-litre Flatbed Microwave Drawer™
  • 900W microwave power
  • Piano black glass finish with touch glass controls
  • Smooth, ergonomic drawer access
  • Flexible under-counter installation
  • Bright LED interior lighting
  • Easy Wave Open touchless opening
  • Sensor Cook® menu for precise cooking and reheating

“Bringing the Microwave Drawer™ to the NKBA Annual Conference gave us a valuable opportunity to put this innovative product in front of the people who influence how kitchens are designed and built,” says Ahlam Azhar, Consumer Electronics Product Manager, Sharp New Zealand.

“The response from the design community has been extremely positive. We’re particularly interested in understanding how designers see the product fitting into the New Zealand kitchen market and what features and applications would be most valuable to their customers.”
