Craving something sweet? These easy peanut butter chocolate oat squares come together in the microwave with just a few simple ingredients. Perfect for an easy homemade treat.
Makes 16 squares
Ingredients
For the oat base
1½ cups rolled oats (135g)
1 cup + 1 tbsp smooth peanut butter (305g)
½ cup maple syrup (120g)
For the chocolate topping
150g chocolate, chopped
3 tbsp smooth peanut butter (75g)
Method
Make the base: Add the peanut butter and maple syrup to a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on medium-high for 30 seconds, stir, then continue in 15–20 second bursts until warm and well combined.
Stir the rolled oats into the warm peanut butter mixture until every oat is coated.
Line an 20cm square tin with baking paper. Tip in the mixture and press down firmly and evenly with the back of a spoon.
Make the topping: Add the chocolate and peanut butter to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring well between each, until smooth and glossy.
Pour the chocolate mixture over the oat base and spread evenly.
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or until firm.
Cut into squares and enjoy!
Sharp tip: Don't overheat the peanut butter mixture — you're only warming it enough to make it easy to combine. This keeps the oat squares chewy rather than dry.
